Artist: Douglas Bentham, R.C.A. (Canadian , born Rosetown Sask. 1947),
is a nationally recognized Saskatoon
sculptor who has worked in welded steel abstraction
since 1989. Boundary is an example of work resulting
from Bentham's change of direction following his 1980
retrospective at the MacKenzie Art Gallery. Of this
period he writes : "I chose to abandon the use of shelf
stock (plates, I-beam, channels, etc. -materials with
strongly stated, inherent properties) and turned
instead to the anonymity of thin steel -like cut
paper, a material which had to be hand-formed and
manipulated from the outset.: Bentham has executed
public commissions of the National Science Library
(Ottawa), the University of Western Ontario in London),
and the Government of Canada Building (Calgary).
